Narcissa Niblack Thorne (1882-1966) was an American artist known for her intricate miniature rooms, made from 1932-1940. There are 68 rooms total, all created in 1:12 scale. They are housed at the Art Institute of Chicago.
The objective of this project was to select one of these Thorne rooms to draft. I chose Virginia Dining Room, 1978 because of the fireplace, symmetry, and the intricate trim. This project was designed for 2D tool exploration in Vectorworks.
Since the Thorne room is in 1:12 scale, I had to use the linear perspective, the relative sizes of objects to one another, and a little guesswork to draw the floorplan, wall elevation, and section.
This drafting packet was fun as I was able to practice creating more interesting shapes in 2D Vectorworks, such as the molding above the doors, windows, and fireplace.
