SQUIRREL POINT LIGHT
drafting packet

The objective of this project was to create a lighthouse, real or imaginary. I picked Squirrel Point Light in Maine. I liked the shape of the lighthouse and the red glass. This project was my introduction to 3D Vectorworks, and I wanted to challenge myself to create something with more complex geometry than a simple round lighthouse.

I started by compiling images and creating sketches. Once I was in Vectorworks I created a floor plan and extruded its parts. The hexagonal tower was created using the tapered extrude tool. I was able to experiment with the ladder tool to create the ladder to the balcony. The most difficult part of this project was creating the railings, ladder, and walkway. I found that it was hard to line up the angles and heights appropriately.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this project, however, if I could go back I would change a lot from the beginning. Such as the file organization, as the small number of design layers caused problems later in the drafting process. I would also be more accurate from the beginning, I built in a 3D view most of the time but I think things would have lined up nicer if I had drawn more in 2D views.
